چکیده

Trematodes of Audouin 3 gull, La rus audouinii (Aves, Laridae), from Chafarinas lslands (W Mediterranean).-A survey was carried out on the trematode fauna of Larus audouinii Payraudeau, 1826 (Aves, Laridae) in the Alboran Sea, south-western Mediterranean. A total of 10 trematode species was found: Sch/josomaatinae gen. sp., Ornithobilharzia sp., Pachytrerna calculus, Renico/a lar( Brachylecithurn microtesticulaturn, Condylocotyla pilodora, Knipowitschiatrema nicolai, Cardiocephalus longicollis, Acanthotrema armata and Aporchis rnassiliensis. The main morphoanatomic characteristics of helrninths and the ecological host-parasite relationships are presented. L. audouinii becomes a new host for the 10 trematode species.

Audouin's gull, a potential vehicle of an extended spectrum β-lactamase producing Salmonella Agona.

The genome of a multidrug-resistant Salmonella Agona isolated from Larus audouinii (Audouin's gull) in Spain was examined. The isolate showed high levels of resistance to different antimicrobials, including third generation cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones, which is a public health concern as those being used to treat severe salmonellosis in humans. Whole genome sequencing revealed the strai...

Phylogenetic relationships within the Laridae (Charadriiformes: Aves) inferred from mitochondrial markers.

Gulls (Aves: Laridae) constitute a recent and cosmopolite family of well-studied seabirds for which a robust phylogeny is needed to perform comparative and biogeographical analyses. The present study, the first molecular phylogeny of all Larids species (N=53), is based on a combined segment of mtDNA (partial cytochrome b and control region). We discuss our phylogenetic tree in the light of prev...

Modelling Terrestrial and Marine Foraging Habitats in Breeding Audouin's Gulls Larus audouinii: Timing Matters

Although the breeding ecology of Audouin's gull has been widely studied, its spatial distribution patterns have received little attention. We assessed the foraging movements of 36 GPS-tracked adult Audouin's gulls breeding at the Ebro Delta (NW Mediterranean), coinciding with the incubation period (May 2011). This also coincided with a trawling moratorium northwards from the colony. We modelled...

Comparisons of host specificity in feather louse genera (Insecta: Phthiraptera: Philopteridae) parasitizing gulls (Aves: Laridae: Larus).

Data from gene sequences and morphological structures were collected for the gull feather lice, Saemundssonia lari, Quadraceps punctatus, and Q. ornatus, parasitizing Larus crassirostris and L. schistisagus. Saemundssonia lari was collected from both gull species, and no detectable morphological and genetic differences were found between lice collected from the two different hosts. In contrast,...
